Tell Congress to support your right to race!
The Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports (RPM) Act
The Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports Act (RPM Act, H.R. 5434 ) was reintroduced in the House by U.S. Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.) and cosponsored by Rep. Raul Ruiz (D-Calif.), along with five other original sponsors: Reps. Richard Hudson (R-N.C.), Kurt Schrader (D-Ore.), Bill Posey (R-Fla.), Gil Cisneros (D-Calif.), and Michael Burgess (R-Texas).
The bi-partisan RPM Act would ensure that converting motor vehicles into competition-only vehicles remains legal. Street motorcycles are considered motor vehicles under the federal Clean Air Act.

Fall Riding in Maine
If you haven’t had the opportunity to take a motorcycle ride in Maine during late fall, you’re missing out. In mid-to-late October, things just come together in a way that’s perfect for riders.
First, the traffic dies down. The vacationers have gone home. The leaf peepers have seen the leaves and are mostly off the roads. The temperatures are still decent…likely 50-to-60 degrees in the sun. The roads are mostly clean of debris, although you do have to be careful of some leaves in the roadway. With some leaves down and many colorful ones still on the trees, the views and scenery are arguably the best of the year.

Next! ’85 Kawasaki Ninja 600R Resto-mod
It may not seem like much at the moment, but we’ve got big plans for this old relic. Welcome to the next project here at Metrics.
The only good things about this bike are that we have all the plastics, the seats are in great shape, and it hasn’t been in a wreck.
What are the plans, you ask? Well, we’ve got a ‘98 ZX7R engine, front end, and rear swingarm from another project. We’re going for a sleeper resto-mod.

As much as we’ve enjoyed having her around, project Top Gun is now on the way to her new home. It was a pleasure getting to work on and ride such a legendary machine, but now it’s on the next adventure.
We wish the new owner years of enjoyment and, when the time comes, a nice payday.

Project “Top Gun” – For Sale!
So, if you’ve been following our updates , you’ve heard about project Top Gun , a near-mint condition 1985 Kawasaki GPz900R. We’ve done some maintenance and replacement of wear items to get it ready to ride. It’s time to send it to a new owner. You can view the details here .
Project “Top Gun” Update
It’s been a few weeks since (“Top Gun”)[https://www.metricmaniacs.com/2019/04/21/top-gun-the-next-metrics-project/] arrived. This near-mint ‘85 Kawasaki GPz 900 could be considered a barn find. It had been stored for around 7-8 years and needed some TLC to get running and road worthy again.
Luckily, we found her and have been giving her the attention she needs and deserves. We pulled the tank and cleaned out all the dirt and light rust that had developed. Overall the tank looks great. We pulled the carburetors, cleaned, and rebuilt them. Surprisingly, the carb boots, which on old bikes can get brittle and hard to work with, were in good shape.
Back from the Dead – Custom ZX-14
Getting ready to send this one back home…a custom 2007 Kawasaki ZX-14R that was sitting for two-plus years. We did a full service on it, replaced the battery, drained and refilled the gas tank, and replaced the rear brake pads. She’s ready to roll!

“Top Gun”…The Next Metrics Project
“Talk to me Goose!”
Grab your aviator glasses and your bomber jacket! The next project to hit Metrics is a legit legend. The fastest production bike the year it came out and immortalized in the movie “Top Gun” starring Tom Cruise, the 1985 Kawasaki GPz900 is famous.
Or, as The Iceman says, “you mean ’notorious’.”
We have to admit, “Top Gun” is a great movie and the GPz900 was a perfect choice, but there’s one glaring faux pas that still grinds our gears to this day. Mav would look a lot cooler without the tie-down straps making an appearance in this shot…
