Project GS750
Made a few important discoveries on the project GS750 today.
- The engine isn’t Frozen and has compression in all cylinders. This was the big one. From here, anything is possible.
- The gas tank has hardly any rust in it.
- Removed the seat and was amazed to find the pan is in amazingly good condition. In fact, the entire bike is hardly rusted at all.
So, with the help of PB Blaster for a few stubborn bolts and to free up the kick starter, the project GS750 is well underway. If we can replace the missing coil and throw a battery in it, this thing may fire up someday soon.
Bringing ’em back from the dead…
Got this old gem into the shop yesterday. It’s a 197? Suzuki GS750 (we’ll find out what specific year it is when we check out the VIN). It’s been sitting outside for an unknown amount of time. Definitely needs a lot of TLC, but we’ll be bringing her back from the dead and adding some tasteful modifications…hopefully, by early spring!
End of the Road for the Venerable Hayabusa
According to Bennets, Suzuki is ending production of arguably the most iconic sportbike of all time, the Hayabusa.

Winter, Schminter!
It may be getting cold around here, but metric mania is always in season. Two new tires for this GSX-R1000 and several, bigger projects underway, too.
Wheels Through Time Museum
About a month ago, we got the chance to visit the Wheels Through Time Museum in Maggie Valley, North Carolina. As their website states, “Wheels Through Time Museum is home to the world’s premier collection of rare American motorcycles, memorabilia, and a distinct array of unique one-off’ American automobiles. Located just 5 miles off the Blue Ridge Parkway in Maggie Valley, North Carolina our museum houses a collection of over 300 rare machines.”
2018 UBM Toy Run
On September 9, 2018 the 37th annual United Bikers of Maine (UBM) toy run took place. As always, it was a chance for bikers around the state to join together and give to an important cause. The toy run has consistently delivered thousands of new, unwrapped toys to less-fortunate, Maine children all across the state.
In many years past, weather has had a somewhat negative impact on attendance. While many riders brave the elements regardless of how wet or cold it gets, a large contingent is understandably less interested in riding potentially hundreds of miles in inclement weather. This year, however, the weather was beautiful. It was sunny, clear, and temperate. Without checking any official figures, all indications are that the most-recent toy run was well attended.
Motorcycle Cannonball Run is in Portland, ME
Big event this weekend…the motorcycle cannonball run is in town and kicking off from a local dealership tomorrow. Going to head over this afternoon to see some vintage cycles, race teams, and more. Come check it out!
2019 BMW S1000RR Details Emerge
If rumors are to be believed, we can now get a great look at the cosmetic and other aspects of the soon-to-be-introduced 2019 BMW S1000RR . While spy pictures have been available for a while, many styling cues were still up for debate. In particular, the oft-maligned, but awesome, asymmetric headlight setup seems to be gone on the new machine.
We’re sure the new S1000RR is going to be a weapon, but we’re sure going to miss some of the cool factors from the current generation. The styling of the new one seems a little bland compared to the edgy, shark-themed design of the past. Probably going to hold onto the 2015 for a while yet.
Torque Specs Matter
Just to be clear, we’re not torque-specification police around here. Many things can be tightened within a reasonable variance of the spec with just experience and muscle memory, but this latest one just begged for a post.
Brought in a customer’s bike for a new chain and sprockets. We were going to adjust the gearing a little by going down one tooth in the front. Fast forward a couple of days, a couple different pneumatic impact guns (one over 1000 lb/ft), a1/2-inch drive breaker bar with a 4-foot pipe on it, and more. The target? The front sprocket nut on a 2007 Kawasaki ZX6R. Although they are notorious for being difficult to remove on these bikes, this one can be considered “above and beyond”.
2005 Kawasaki ZX636
Took this 636 in to do some much-needed maintenance. Installed a new chain and sprockets, new rear brake pads, and bled the front and rear brake systems. Fixed some issues with the exhaust, license plate, and rear blinker mounts then topped off the engine oil. She’s ready to roll.
First Design Prototype is Here!
Let’s face it. We all love t-shirts. We’re just getting started developing a line of shirts and other apparel geared toward the metric maniac (see what we did there?), but the first one is a basic brand-themed shirt. We think it came out pretty cool…and can’t wait to spin up a few more. Let us know what you think!
